DARK MODE

About LightStop

The story behind the extension designed to cure eye strain, one pixel at a time.

The internet was built on white backgrounds, mimicking paper. However, as our lives shifted to screens, especially during late-night hours, this "digital paper" became a source of blinding glare, sleep disruption, and eye strain.

Traditional dark mode extensions were built on simple negation rules—inverting colors blindly. This approach breaks key aspects of modern web design: it turns photographs into negative negatives, turns colorful illustration assets into color-scrambled ghosts, and leaves links in dark royal blue, which is practically invisible on dark gray backgrounds.

Our Mission

LightStop was born to solve these issues. Our goal is to make visual dark modes that feel **deliberately customized** and **visually premium** rather than inverted.

By developing an intelligent stylesheet analyzer and applying hardware-accelerated CSS filters, LightStop protects original images/media assets, heals hyperlink colors into soft pastels, and lets users pick themes that match their physical desktop environments—from Pitch OLED to Nordic Frost.
